Three countries share the catchment of the Lim River and they have been engaged in an eco-logical struggle for years, to conserve the river, its tributaries, and biodiversity. Honoring international conventions and declarations, along with active involvement of the civil society and support of Eu-ropean Union agencies, major efforts are being made to draw attention to the degradation of nature, especially water, which is essential for life on the planet Earth. Considering that natural resources are limited and that quantities have been decreasing, appropriate measures and steps are needed to achieve the principles of ecosystem conservation and sustainability. Very little has been done to pro-tect aquatic ecosystems and address the degradation of alluviums and pollution of rivers and their tribu-taries.
With the development of industry and urban expansion, riparian zones and river channels are becoming increasingly devastated. With that in mind, aiming to assess the impact of human activity and also define the natural distribution of elements in the sediments of the Lim River, 123 samples were collected from the alluvium of that river and its tributaries, near their mouths. The paper presents the results of chemical analyses. - том
