The Flow Conditions in the Epikarst Zone of a Karst Aquifer. Case Study: Suva planina Mt., East Serbia
Branislav Petrović (2023)The epikarst as a part of the karst aquifer represents a complex point of contact and mixing of unconsolidated material from the terrain surface, carbonate rocks altered by “corrosive” water, flora and fauna (and remains of), which is partially saturated with groundwater. Significant amounts of (plant accessible) water, and other solutes and particles, can be stored in this zone for extended periods of time. Thus, attenuation or biochemical processes could start in this layer and change quality of infiltrated ...Branislav Petrović. "The Flow Conditions in the Epikarst Zone of a Karst Aquifer. New paleoecological perspectives on Late Pleistocene Neanderthals in northern Balkans: the rodent assemblages from Smolućka cave (Serbia)
Mihailo Jovanović, Katarina Bogićević, Draženko Nenadić, Jordi Agustí,·Christian Sánchez Bandera, Juan Manuel López García, Hugues Alexandre Blain (2022)During the Late Pleistocene, the Balkans came to be an important region with many isolated areas, enabling fauna, alongside Neanderthals, to thrive in the area. This work is focused on paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes that occurred in the northern Balkan Peninsula with a special focus on fossil record from Smolućka cave aging from MIS 5 to MIS 3. Based on available data, an attempt has been made to establish a synthetic chronological context for the faunal assemblages recovered from ...Mihailo Jovanović, Katarina Bogićević, Draženko Nenadić, Jordi Agustí,·Christian Sánchez Bandera, Juan Manuel López García, Hugues Alexandre Blain. Pleistocene rhinoceros from Bogovina Cave: the first report of Stephanorhinus hundsheimensis Toula, 1902 (Mammalia, Rhinocerotidae) from Serbia
Finds of Pleistocene rhinoceros are rare in Serbia, and only one species (the woolly rhinoceros Coelodonta antiquitatis Blumenbach, 1799) has been reported so far. The current paper presents the dental material of an extinct so-called Hundsheim rhinoceros, Stephanorhinus hundsheimensis Toula, 1902 from Bogovina Cave (East ern Serbia). Both the morphological and metric characteristics of the teeth are consis tent with the attribution to S. hundsheimensis. Unfortunately, the rhinoceros material originated from an uncertain geological context, so there is no ...... of pre- dominantly shallow-water limestones dips steeply (~45°) towards the east (Veselinović et al., 1964). Prvi nalazi repatih vodozemaca (Urodela) u pleistocenskoj pećinskoj fauni Srbije; još jedna kockica u slagalici
Fosilna fauna pleistocenskih pećina odslikava sastav faune njihove okoline. U proučavanje fluktuacija pleistocenske klime sve češće se ...... in the Smolućka Cave, as well as a larger number of phalanges of an unidentified tailed amphibian, there is a possibility that the cave at some point served as a hibernation place for a smaller group of these amphibians. Systematic excavations of Velika and Mala Balanica, and Peˇsturina (southern Serbia) revealed assemblages of Middle Paleolithic artifacts associated with hominin fossils and animal bones. This paper focuses on Pesturina Layer 4, radiometrically and biostratigraphically dated to Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5, which yielded traces of temporary hunting camps.
