To what extent reactivated faults are (not) responsible for karst process: example from Serbian Carpatho-Balkanides?
Ana Mladenović, Jelena Ćalić (2023)Carpatho-Balkanides represent part of the complex Dinaric – Carpatho – Balkan orogenic system, that geomorphologically dominates the central part of the Balkan Peninsula. The existence of this orogenic system is a result of closure of the Neotethys ocean and subsequent convergence of the Adriatic microplate and the Eurasian continent, that has been still active in the recent times. Such geodynamic characteristics conditioned complex tectonic structures, multiply reactivated during Late Cretaceous and Cenozoic times. The main aim of this work ...Ana Mladenović, Jelena Ćalić. How active is recent tectonics in the central Balkans: Evidence from the Serbian Carpatho-Balkanides
Ana Mladenović (2022)Since the Late Cretaceous, after closure of the Neotethys ocean, tectonic processes in the central Balkan Peninsula were mainly controlled by the mutual interaction of the Adriatic and the Eurasian plates, and tectonic units in-between. Most of the tectonic structures that have been active during Cenozoic times were inherited from previous tectonic stages under different tectonic regimes. Tectonic activity within the Carpatho-Balkan orogen in eastern Serbia since Miocene is conditioned by the existence of the rigid Moesian promontory east ...Ana Mladenović. Investigating distant effects of the Moesian promontory: Brittle tectonics along the western boundary of the Getic unit (East Serbia)
In this study, we report evidence for brittle deformation in a part of the Carpatho–Balkan orogen, which is explained in terms of effects of the rigid Moesian promontory of the European plate on fault kinematics in East Serbia. We focus on the westernmost part of the Getic Unit of the East Serbian Carpatho–Balkanides, i.e. the Gornjak–Ravanica Unit, located between two main thrusts that were repeatedly activated from Early Cretaceous to recent times. We combine a new data set on ...Getikum, Mezijska jedinica, Karpato-balkanski orogen, krte deformacije, Gornjačko-ravanička jedinica... l and transpressional domains active due to the oroclinal bending and rotation of the Dacia mega-unit around the rigid Moesian promontory. 5.3 Deformation phase D2: strike-slip tectonics of a locked area The younger deformational phase in the research area involves strike-slip tectonics, with generally ...

Speleo‐morphology and tectonic processes – What can be seen in slowly deforming regions?
Ana Mladenović, Jelena Ćalić (2022)There are a lot of methods used to determine tectonic process active in a region, and they vary depending on the purpose of the research. However, a number of them cannot be used in slowly deforming regions, because the effects of active tectonic process on the rocks in such regions could be negligible. This is especially true for the recently active tectonics in such regions, since most of the recently active tectonic structures never reach the surface. Because of ...Ana Mladenović, Jelena Ćalić. Back-arc underplating provided crustal accretion affecting topography and sedimentation in the Adria microplate
Paolo Mancinelli, Vittorio Scisciani, Cristina Pauselli, Gérard M. Stampfli, Fabio Speranza, Ivana Vasiljević (2021)Supported by evidence of deep crustal sources for the observed magnetic anomalies in Central Italy and by outcropping gabbros in the Croatian archipelago, we model the observed gravity and magnetic anomalies in the Central Adriatic Sea and surroundings. We suggest that the major magnetic anomalies in the area are related to a wide underplating and propose that this volume represents the first stage of the back-arc Adria continental breakup in Early Permian times. During the Palaeotethys-Adria collision, underplating has ...... than previous estimates proposing younger ages. The gabbroic intrusions in the basement were later locally exhumed by compressional and transpressional tectonics (Tari, 2002) related to the Dinaric chain emplacement and are those outcropping in the Croatian archipelago. The observed magnetic anomalies ...

Tectonic evolution of the Vršac Mts. (NE Serbia): Inferences from field kinematic and microstructural investigations
The Vršac Mts. in NE Serbia represent the key area to investigate structural relations between the Northern Serbo-Macedonian Subunit and Supragetic Unit of the Dacia Mega-Unit. The geodynamic events during the Variscan orogeny in the Late Paleozoic colligated the two units and led to their metamorphic differentiation. The Late Cretaceous extension exhumed the medium-grade Serbo-Macedonian metamorphic rocks and structurally juxtaposed them against the low-grade metamorphosed basement of the Supragetic Unit along an E-dipping shear zone, which outcrops in the ...severna srpsko-makedonska subjedinica, supragetikum, kinematska analiza, multifazna ekstenzionalna deformacijaUroš Stojadinović, Nemanja Krstekanić, Bojan Kostić, Marija Ružić, Aleksa Luković .
